Company Founded
Joe Urban, a Swiss immigrant, develops a self-supporting aluminum awning and establishes Urban Industries to manufacture Urban Awnings.
1949
Factory Expansion
Joe broke ground for a new factory which he subsequently expanded seven times during the 50’s. 
1957
Second Plant Opens
Urban Industries opens a second manufacturing facility in Azusa, California.
1963
Leadership Change
After Joe Urban’s unexpected death, Jacque Jones purchases the company.
1976
Company Purchased by New Owners
Ed Rieke and two partners buy the struggling company and begin a turnaround.
1981
New Era Under Ed Rieke
Ed Rieke becomes the driving force, revitalizing Urban Industries with a renewed vision and team.
1992
Bulk Bag Division Launched
Urban opens its Bulk Bag division to manufacture and import material-handling bulk bags.
1998
Expanded Manufacturing
Urban Industries begins stamping and fabricating parts for appliance and transportation markets.
2001
Next Generation Leadership Begins
Ned Rieke, son of Ed Rieke, joins the company to help guide future growth.
2017
New President & CEO
Ned Rieke is installed as President and CEO, leading Urban Industries into its next chapter.
